Peter & Rachael Austin founded Clearwater Fish Farm in 1980 and developed the business in parallel with Clearwater Hampers which is now their principal business. |
Tim Lobb was the farm manager for 5 years before becoming self-employed in 1998, leasing the farm from the Austins. | The
business is now more properly Brookleas Fish Farm, but still trades under

The farm hatches and raises over 40,000 rainbow trout per year. The rainbow trout is a North American variety introduced to Britain in the 19th Century. It is used in preference to native brown trout as its lifecycle is better suited to intensive farming methods. Young are produced via artificial fertilisation, hatched in trays and raised in tanks (fed by the Hendred Brook) to maturity. | ||||
