Ridgeway Lodge Hotel

 Skeats Bush

The location of the Ridgeway Lodge Hotel originally housed two estate cottages for Downs House in the early turn of the century. Downs House itself was demolished after the second World War and the houses sold privately.

The owners of the Hotel, the Newman family, came to East Hendred in late 1978 acquiring the first cottage from the Spey’s, and later purchased the second cottage from the Endean family in 1985. The business then began as a five bedroom guest house in 1986.

Strong demand led to a major expansion in 1990 to an eleven bedroom hotel adjoining the private four bedroom dwelling together with the later additions of a Granddad flat and offices and pump room for the swimming pool.

The main purpose  of the Hotel is to service the needs of local industry and the community providing a mixture of family rooms, double and twin rooms, and single rooms, all equipped with the trappings of a hotel (restaurant, bar, television, direct dial telephone, etc), but in a family environment at a realistic tariff.    Long term relationships have been forged with business units at Harwell such as the Rutherford Appleton laboratories, the Power Station at Didcot, and a number of operations at Milton Hill. Additionally, we have hosted many local functions in the area such as wedding receptions, anniversaries and parties.  We frequently provide a haven for walkers on the Ridgeway trail.
