Saturday, May 13th saw the annual Fete in the Hendred
House grounds, on a beautiful sunny day, opened by Wesley Smith
(pictured) from Carlton Television.
Hundreds of people visited throughout the afternoon
and took advantage of the many stalls and side shows on offer. The Tug
of War was won by the St.Amands team who valiantly held off the late
entry team from the Wantage Fire Station. Many people took advantage of
the chance to soak those in the stocks pillory, and the children
much enjoyed the funfair. Many village groups took the opportunity to
run stalls for themselves to benefit their own funds.
In addition to the activities in the main arena, the
Hall and Private Chapel at Hendred House were a popular attraction since
they were opened to the public for the first time at this fete.
The profit from the fete proceeds totalled £2304, which
was divided three ways (St.Amands School Trust, St.Mary's Endowment Trust,
Community Centre)
