No, not the television series of that name, but a special evening service held at St. Augustine’s Church, on Sunday 11th June, to celebrate Pentecost. The congregation came from both St. Augustine’s and St. Mary’s, and the hymns had been chosen by members of both congregations because they had some special significance.

Revd. Ernest Adley welcomed the congregation and introduced the service and hymns.

Danni Bradley chose the hymn ‘Lord, the light of Your love is shining’ because she finds it exciting.

Anna Fisher chose ‘Morning has broken’ because Mary O’Hara sings it beautifully.

Joyce Newman chose ‘ What a friend we have in Jesus’ which reminds her of her childhood.

Betty Bushnell, and John and Bobbie Dawson, chose the hymn ‘Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here’ - it was their wedding hymn.

Brenda Barrett chose ‘Walk with me, oh my Lord’, because it helps her in difficult times, especially verse 5:
As once you healed the lame
And gave sight to the blind,
Help me when I’m downcast
To hold my head up high.

Jo Barr chose ‘Lord of the Dance’ because it is her brother’s favourite. Gwen Little and James Hart chose ‘All things bright and beautiful’, in memory of Mr. Little and James Pill.

Edward Eyston chose the hymn Jerusalem (‘And did those feet in ancient times…’) as a reminder of schooldays, and still stirring and inspiring.

Sylvia Adley chose the hymn ‘Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son’, because it reaffirmed her faith after it was shaken by modernist theology.

Finally, Father Sean Murphy gave the blessing at the conclusion of the service.
