Shrove Tuesday was the traditional day for the bun and
penny presentation at Hendred House, an event going back over at least
a century.
Over 200 children at the village schools queued up for
their Millennium bun and penny, handed out by Mr.Tom Eyston.
The traditional "shroving" song was sung by
the children:
"Pit pat, the pan is hot,
Here we come a-shroving,
With a butcher on your back,
A halfpenny's better than nothing"
