Britain hit by floods, but Hendred escapes

     
Autumn 2000 was the wettest autumn for 234 years in England and Wales, and there was heavy rainfall and flooding throughout the country. The railway line between Didcot and Oxford was closed due to subsidence.

Although East Hendred itself was not badly affected compared with lower lying areas, many journeys were disrupted and fields became waterlogged. We started to become aware of the changes which global warming might bring in the future.
