Red Kites over Hendred

Buzzard

In spite of concerns regarding intensive farming, there are many examples of new and once scarce wildlife becoming re-established within the parish.

Deer and buzzards are now commonly seen and water voles made a comeback in 2000.

Following their re-introduction into the Chilterns, red kites, extinct in England for many years, are now occasionally seen in Hendred.

There were several sightings of these magnificent birds during the spring of 2000.

One Sunday in April, a kite was seen at various points around the village and particularly along the Furlong.
