Speed limit introduced in Hendreds

For many years, East Hendred's streets were officially classified as being subject to the 'national speed limit' - 60 miles per hour.

This had seemed especially ridiculous since the mid-90's, when a 50 MPH limit was imposed on the A417 between Rowstock and West Hendred.

Drivers were actually entitled  to accelerate after turning into White Road or Allins Lane!

As part of a programme covering many villages in Oxfordshire, a 30 MPH speed limit was imposed throughout the roads of East Hendred for the first time.

Although Hendred's many narrow lanes had long been an effective form of traffic calming, it was reassuring to know that, at last, there was a legally enforceable speed limit within the village.
