Redevelopment of Orchard Stables
     
The closure of the last training stables in the village, Orchard Stables in Orchard Lane, saw the end of many years of racehorse training in East Hendred. Another training establishment at Framptons in Newbury Road closed a few years earlier.

During 2000, work started converting Orchard Stables into housing.

Andy Turnell produced many winners during the years he trained in East Hendred, including the 1987 Grand National winner Maori Venture, seen here returning to the village after the big race.
