Cable Chaos
     
Anyone journeying out of the village by car in the summer of 2000 was in for major delays as several gangs worked on building a new cable network under the A417. 

Every 2 miles there was another traffic light, some several hundred yards long, all the way from Streatley to Faringdon.

  

Then, in December, barely a month after the first lot finished, a rival company started all over again laying its network under the same road...

...yet East Hendred remained (blissfully) unconnected to any cable system except British Telecom!
