Train disruption

On 17th October 2000, a GNER London to Leeds train, travelling at over 100mph, derailed at Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Four people were killed and many more were injured.     The cause of the crash was a cracked rail, and subsequent checks resulted in speed limits being imposed on many sections of track.
There were severe delays for rail users while the track throughout the country was checked. Sections at Didcot East and Didcot North were found to be suspect.
