Brief history    The Community Centre Committee was initiated in 1969 to raise funds for a new village hall, to replace the existing hall in Cat Street. It purchased the old Church of England School in Church Street in the early 1970's and this was extensively modified before opening as a village hall in March 1974. A major fund raising activity was undertaken to fund this. The old school house was converted into a flat for the resident warden. An extension was added in 1998 as a dedicated unit for the village pre-school organisation. In 1999 a major Millennium extension was completed, to extend the foyer, linking the pre-school extension to the main hall, and to create a new first floor facility of a Village College and a gallery. This extension was opened by Lord Jenkins in March 1999. This facility was part funded by a grant from the  '21st Century Village Halls for England' Millennium programme.

Six computers were installed in the IT room in October 1999, when several computer training courses started in conjunction with Abingdon College. These courses continued throughout 2000.

Special events for Millennium year    Snells Hall was the venue for most of the village Millennium events. A fete was held in the grounds of Hendred House in May, to raise funds (jointly with St.Mary's Church and St.Amands School).
