Purpose of organisation    To promote local and general public interest and education in the history & culture of East Hendred and its surrounding area.
To acquire, conserve and display relics and artefacts relating to the village community.
To obtain premises suitable for the activities of the Trust.

Brief history of organisation    The East Hendred Heritage Trust grew out of the Museum/Heritage organisation started by the Hendreds Society, when they held successful local exhibitions of Hendred heritage in the late 1960's and 1970's. When Champs Chapel was refurbished by the Eyston family a more permanent collection of village memorabilia was started, under the auspices of Olga Ashthorpe (also a Parish Councillor and Clerk to the Parish Council).
In 1995 a group of village people took on the responsibility of Trusteeship for the Trust and negotiated a short term lease of the Chapel from the Hendred Estate. The trustees have also been able to find locations for storage of some archives and plan a permanent base in Snells Hall.
Individuals providing donations (via Gift Aid) or by regular covenants support the Trust financially.

Where and when    There are monthly meetings of the committee and exhibitions are staged on a variety of village themes. The museum is housed in the 15th Century Carthusian Chapel of Jesus of Bethlehem.

Museum month (May) saw the opening of the village 2000 year history story. A performance of 'Now & Then' was held in January in Snells Hall, describing the village in the year 1900, and showing an audio-visual presentation of the Eyston family and Hendred House. The Heritage Trust also mounted a major contribution to the village Family Show in August with the village fire engine on display. The Trust also provided a display and slide show for the Exhibition of Millennium events and activities in Snells Hall in December, including a special showing of old cine films of the village.
