Purpose of organisation    To encourage, co-ordinate, facilitate and publicise activities in East Hendred associated with the Millennium
           
  Brief history of organisation    First meeting of interested people from village organisations held in Nov. 1997. Regular meetings were held from April 6th 1998, to discuss and initiate ideas for celebration of Millennium year. A grant was obtained initially from East Hendred Parish Council, followed by two grants from national Millennium 'Awards for All' programme, plus grant from District Council for Family Show.
           
  Where and when   Initially at Champs Chapel, then in Snells Hall. Monthly at the beginning, less often as Millennium year progressed.
           
  Special events for Millennium year    Specific events organised by Committee. 
  • December 31st: Torchlit procession from Hendred House through village to Snells. Fireworks in Snells, Beacon in Snells as part of national chain for Millennium eve.
  • April: Childrens exhibition of art (two schools, pre-school and Sarceaux school), presentation of mugs to village children funded by Parish Council, Schools musical concert
  • June: Childrens' party in Snells Hall with disco and entertainer, and bouncy castle
  • December (30/31st): Exhibition in Snells Hall of village organisation Millennium activities, opening of village web site, by Dame Jennifer Jenkins. Presentations of village video of Millennium events to audiences. 
  • Jan. 1st 2001: Beacon on Ridgeway, as part of national chain of beacons
