| Purpose of organisation | To manage local government at the parish level for East Hendred. Members are elected every 4 years (last election 1998). A precept is set each year to fund village facilities - the precept for 2000 was £12,500. The clerk is employed by the Council (part time). A village lengthman (Brian Goodwin) to maintain the grass, verges etc is also employed by the Council. | ||||||||||||
| Brief history of organisation | East Hendred Parish Council was founded in 1899, and has continued since that time. The Council is responsible for the allotments adjacent to White Road/Old Road, the playground in Mill Lane and since October 2000 the Penney Playpark in Snells. It also maintains the two village bus shelters, and is the Trustee for the Sports Ground and pavilion in Mill Lane. The Council publishes a Bulletin approximately 4 times each year. | ||||||||||||
| Where and when | Tuesday evenings (second Tuesday in month) - the public is encouraged to attend. During 2000 meetings were in the Gallery at Snells Hall. An annual meeting of the Council is held in April. | ||||||||||||
| Special events for Millennium year | Presentation
of mugs to village children (April).
Opening of Penney Playpark in October Award of grant of £2300 to the Millennium Committee to foster Millennium events in the village. A special issue of the Bulletin to include village Millennium events and activities is planned for later in 2001. |
